The Retreat

How it works…

We want your stay at The Retreat to go fabulously, no matter who you are. Paid guests contribute to the cost of hosting families who can’t afford their stay.

The Retreat was founded by Nic Bolto who saw the absolute benefits of immersion in this natural setting.

“Over the four years it’s taken to build The Retreat, many people have contributed to this vision, more than 30 trades and craftsmen and over 200 volunteers. We want everyone who needs rest at The Retreat to have the opportunity to take it.”

Here are the three majors we offer you to make your stay more that memorable:

Your hosts: Our hosts work at The Retreat anywhere from several days to several weeks. They are talented people who love the outdoors and the environment they work in… contributing to a site that reconnects guests with their creativity, passion and purpose.

Simple, Wholefood: We provide breakfast as part of your accommodation and we will work to meet your dietary needs. Lunch is available from local townships or by making use of our larder. There are a number of great dinner options in the local community that we can share that with you, or, stay in with us for some wholefoods.

The Opportunity to Explore: The Retreat offers many places at your disposal that will draw you closer to nature:

  • The dell, positioned in a crook of the natural spring fed creek
  • The waterhouse containing the bath with the million dollar view
  • The cutting, our track that leads into the Cathedral Range State Park and up the the Mt Cathedral walking trails (subject to Parks Victoria approval)
  • The axe track, a 2km circuit that leads down to and returns from the Granite Range valley floor
  • The kitchen garden, where food is harvested for the hosts and guests of The Retreat.
